Illustrator Visit

December 21st, 2017

On Wednesday afternoon we had a visit from Tania. She has illustrated a new children’s book called:

Where’s my Hug?

She brought in the original boards she made  for the book and talked about how she did them. It was great to see and understand the process she went through. Her visit was very inspiring especially for all our budding artists.

Thank you Tania!

Science Fiction – The Iron Man

December 15th, 2017

In Science Fiction we have been writing our own stories using The Iron Man as a model.

We have identified that the author, Ted Hughes, used lots of similes, repetition and short dramatic sentences. we have successfully incorporated these features into our stories.

Here’s an excerpt from one of our stories:

‘Fingers twitching like a newborn baby, his leg, his rusty right leg, lunged backwards. Never before had he seen a  mine, his ear then slightly slipped to an awkwardly diagonal left. Numbers shone in his over-sized eye, then the other green, orange and then they turned back to the turquoise blue.’

The Iron Man

November 22nd, 2017

As part of our Science Fiction topic in English we are studying The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We  watched a clip of the opening of the story and then answered questions using the text. The story has got us hooked and we can’t wait to read on!

November 14th, 2017

In English we have linked our learning to Remembrance Week by learning about the Christmas truce from WW1. We watched the Sainsbury’s advert and did some follow up work. We also used drama to freeze frame parts of the story in the hall.

Fantastic Book Awards

November 14th, 2017

We have now received the books for this year’s Fantastic Book Awards. We are very excited as it is the first time we have taken part.

Now all we have to do is get reading!

Pandora’s Box

September 14th, 2017

In English we have been focusing on the Greek Myth – Pandora’s Box.

We have watched a video , read the story, produced a comic strip, retold it orally and written it in our own words in Write Stuff.

So we are now experts in the story of Pandora’s Box!

We have also started to read our class novel – ‘The Fire Thief’ by Terry Deary-which has already got us hooked.

Groovy Greeks

September 7th, 2017

We were posed a problem to find out what our new topic was.

We had to decipher a message written in a different language, which turned out to be Greek.

We recognised familiar letters and decoded it without too much trouble, it said:

Our new topic is Ancient Greece.

We then wrote our names in Greek.

We thought about what we wanted to find out about Ancient Greece and wrote questions.
