Christian Values – Hope

Our new worship theme is :


In class worship we watched a clip of the song ‘ My Favourite Things’ from The Sound of Music.

In the clip the children were frightened of a thunderstorm and Maria their Nanny encouraged them to think about their favourite things as a way to stop being frightened and be able to cope with the storm. We shared what our 3 favourite things are. We then thought about a favourite wish for the world. We linked this to the value of HOPE by thinking about how HOPE for the future through God helps us to be closer to Him.

Creative Homework!

The children are so enthusiastic about our topic- ‘In A Galaxy far Faraway’ that we have decided to set a creative homework. We will discuss the options for this as a class.

In a Galaxy Far Faraway

Our new topic is a Science based topic – In A Galaxy Far Farway…

We have already discussed how we know that the Earth Sun and Moon are roughly spherical. We have also started to study the planets in our Solar System.

We used ‘Speed Dating’ to find out about the planets. We had just 2 minutes to read and memorize facts about each planet before we moved onto the next one. Once we had done this we then had to recall as many facts as possible.

Some of us develop effective ways to memorize facts, including repeating the fact and finding visual clues to help us.

The Iron Man

As part of our Science Fiction topic in English we are studying The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We  watched a clip of the opening of the story and then answered questions using the text. The story has got us hooked and we can’t wait to read on!

RE – The Qu’ran

Today, Asma – Majed’s mum – came into Sycamore Class to answer our questions about the Qu’ran. She showed us a PowerPoint presentation that she had prepared which taught us lots of new things. We were able to spot many similarities with the Christian faith.

The final photograph shows a boy ‘reading’ from the Qu’ran. We all thought that the clip was amazing and that he had a very beautiful voice.

It was wonderful to have an expert in school to answer our questions and we are all very grateful to Asma for coming. Thank you Asma!

Science – Exercise and Fitness

To finish off our Heart topic in Science we worked in a group to design a circuit of exercises to promote good heart and body health. We then swapped our circuits with another group and tested them out. It was great fun and everyone collaborated beautifully! Some circuits were more challenging than others.


Museum Curator Visit

November 14th, 2017

On Friday, we had a visit from Peter Donnelly from the King’s Own Regimental museum in Lancaster. He accompanied us to church for our Armistice Day commemoration in the morning and then came into class  with us. He talked about his job and gave us some fascinating information about WW1. He also answered questions and looked at the medals, photos etc that the children had brought in for our family history homework.

In English we have linked our learning to Remembrance Week by learning about the Christmas truce from WW1. We watched the Sainsbury’s advert and did some follow up work. We also used drama to freeze frame parts of the story in the hall.

Pulse investigation

As part of our science topic we conducted an investigation to find out the effect exercise has on our pulse rate. It was quite challenging finding our pulses, but once we had we enjoyed checking our pulse after every activity and analysing the results.

Greek Day

November 14th, 2017

To finish off our topic we held a Greek Theme day. Here’s what we got up to:

  • Dressing up
  • Food tasting
  • Story of Theseus and the Minotaur
  • Made Labyrinths out of paper, lego and ropes
  • Made Greek Theatre masks

We had a really fun day and it was a fun end to our topic. Thank you for all the support given to the children to make their costumes.
